Trenton J. Poynter to help increase diversity among attorneys practicing healthcare law
Nashville, Tenn. – Trenton J. Poynter—an associate at Waller, Nashville’s oldest and largest law firm—has been appointed to the Advisory Council on Diversity for the American Health Lawyers Association (AHLA). Poynter joins an elite group of healthcare attorneys who strive to improve diversity efforts within the organization.
“Diversity is such an integral part of our firm,” said John Tishler. “We’re proud Trenton has been selected by the AHLA, an organization that has done a tremendous job in furthering the field of healthcare law. With Waller’s deep history in both healthcare and diversity, we’re thrilled Trenton is involved and helping lead the way with AHLA.”
The Advisory Council on Diversity seeks to cultivate more diversity among attorneys practicing health law. The council members celebrate diversity among leadership and membership, develop programs that serve a broad cross-section of the organization, collaborate with specialty bars and collect and benchmark demographic data from the membership.
As an associate at Waller, Poynter helps to ensure healthcare companies and providers including hospitals, home health agencies, hospice care providers and assisted living facilities comply with federal and state health regulations. Poynter advises clients regarding licensure and Certificate of Needs issues, requisite change of ownership filings and other healthcare regulatory matters. He assists clients with operational and transactional matters as well as privacy and security issues including state patient privacy laws, HIPAA and HITECH.
Poynter earned his J.D. from University of Tennessee College of Law and his B.S. in political science from Middle Tennessee State University. He is a member of the Nashville and American Bar Associations, Napier-Looby Bar Association and a member of several AHLA practice groups, including: Fraud and Abuse; Health Information and Technology; Hospitals and Health Systems; Long Term Care, Senior Housing, In-Home Care, and Rehabilitation; Regulation, Accreditation and Payment Practice Groups.
