Dear Clients and Colleagues,
We are pleased to announce Meesha Kaw is the first ever recipient of the Waller Lansden Diversity Scholarship. The $100K endowment fund was established earlier this year to honor a University of Tennessee (UT), Knoxville College of Law student whose life has been guided by the example of Dr. Martin Luther King.
Our firm's commitment to diversity entails a long history of leadership in the recruitment and retention of women and minority attorneys. We were the first majority firm in Nashville with both male and female African-American partners, and we currently have an incredible roster of attorneys whose diverse backgrounds and unique experiences add breadth to our organization.
The Waller Lansden Diversity Scholarship is the latest example of our dedication to diversity. It is part of our effort to support the UT College of Law's diversity recruiting program, and we are humbled at this opportunity to honor Dr. King.
The award will be presented to Ms. Kaw at the annual King luncheon for incoming UT law students on January 12, 2012. Ms. Kaw will receive $5,000 for the Fall semester and the scholarship is renewable each semester for the three years she attends law school. When she graduates, the scholarship will be awarded to a new student.
We look forward to continuing Dr. King's legacy by granting this and other opportunities to future generations, so that they may live and practice in the world he aspired to create.
