Laura Merritt is a partner in Waller’s Trial and Appellate Litigation and Intellectual Property practice groups who effectively advocates for her clients to resolve intellectual property and business disputes.
Her intellectual property litigation focuses on unfair competition, trademark infringement and dilution, copyright infringement, patent infringement, and the misappropriation of trade secrets and rights of publicity. She also represents clients in disputes related to software development, marketing, and licensing.
Her business litigation focuses primarily on contract disputes, fraud, and tortious interference claims, often related to business transactions that have gone wrong. Recently, Laura served as second chair in a shareholder dissenters’ rights case for judicial valuation that was tried to verdict in Tennessee’s Business Court with a favorable ruling for the client.
Throughout her career, Laura has worked with clients in selecting, protecting, maintaining, and enforcing trademark rights. She regularly practices before the U.S. Trademark Trial and Appeal Board in cancellation, opposition, and ex parte appeal proceedings. She has worked with clients to monitor domain names and to resolve domain name disputes through arbitration proceedings under ICANN’s Uniform Domain Name Dispute Resolution Policy. Additionally, Laura has experience in intellectual property transactions, including representing companies acquiring or selling significant domestic and international intellectual property portfolios, and licensing matters.
Laura also advises clients on conducting sweepstakes and contests and on issues related to social media and digital marketing campaigns.
