Stan Graham is a partner at Waller Lansden and past-Chair of the firm’s Labor and Employment practice. He has since 1996 represented management exclusively in all aspects of employee relations, including trial, litigation, arbitration, and day-to-day counseling.
Mr. Graham regularly assists clients in both the boardroom and the courtroom, including extensive jury trial experience in both federal and state courts. In a recent example, he led the trial team defending a multi-national manufacturer on claims of retaliatory discharge brought by an employee discharged from employment while serving on a state court jury in Alabama. The 12-person jury returned a complete defense verdict following 35 minutes of deliberation.
Mr. Graham has successfully defended claims brought under the full range of workplace laws, including the Family and Medical Leave Act, the Civil Rights Acts of 1866 and 1964, the Fair Labor Standards Act, the Labor Management Relations Act, and the civil rights laws of Indiana, Florida, Kentucky, Arkansas, and Tennessee. He also has broad experience in ERISA litigation, noncompete disputes, medical peer review actions, drug testing and medical inquiries, and business disputes.
Mr. Graham serves as counselor and litigator for national and multi-national companies in a variety of industries, including in the retail, hospitality, automotive, healthcare, distribution, and financial services industries. He also serves as nationwide and regional employment counsel for a number of companies that in the aggregate employ over four hundred thousand workers.
Mr. Graham is past-Chair of the Tennessee Bar Association Labor and Employment Law Section. He has for several years served on the Steering Committee for the Labor and Employment Section of DRI, an international organization of attorneys defending the interests of business in civil litigation. He is peer-review rated ‘AV’ by Martindale-Hubbell and has been recognized as a Mid-South Super Lawyer in the field of Employment Law by Law and Politics magazine.
