Waller Lansden's Healthcare practice includes a team of attorneys who focus on the needs of institutional and retail pharmacies as well as group purchasing organizations.  These attorneys frequently lend their experience to matters involving the sale or purchase of pharmacies such as the recent purchase of an institutional pharmacy business serving more than 20,000 long-term-care and prison beds in the Northeast.  In transactions such as this, Waller Lansden assists clients with State and Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) licensing requirements involved in the change of ownership or in the initial registration requirements associated with the formation of a new pharmacy business.  Waller Lansden provides counsel on operational matters such as Medicare/Medicaid fraud and abuse issues or incidents involving the theft and loss of controlled substances, auditing and the self-reporting of inventory discrepancies to the DEA.  Waller Lansden has assisted in the formation of pharmaceutical group purchasing organizations and provided counsel on similar regulatory and operational issues.
