Waller adds twelve in Nashville

Waller Lansden Dortch & Davis, LLP announced Hollie Cheek, Kean Devine, Tyler Gilbert, Quynh-Anh Kibler, Hannah Kim, Alistair McKane, James Nelson, Bari Ray, Alexa Sengupta, Leigh Stanfield, Hunter Thornton and Renee Wilson joined the firm as first-year associates licensed to practice law in the state of Tennessee. Each is based in the firm’s Nashville office.

 “We’re excited to welcome such a large and diverse class of young attorneys to the firm,” said Waller chair Matt Burnstein. “Our clients will benefit from the assistance they receive from this talented group of young lawyers.”

Cheek assists lenders and borrowers in commercial finance transactions including acquisition and development financing, leveraged recapitalizations, asset-based loans and other senior and subordinated commercial credit facilities. Cheek earned her J.D., with high honors, from the University of Tennessee College of Law where she served as president of the Student Bar Association. She received her B.A., cum laude, from Birmingham Southern College.

Devine assists healthcare providers and investors in transactional matters including acquisitions, private equity recapitalizations and investments, joint ventures and divestitures. His experience ranges from  hospitals and health systems to dental support organizations and specialty physician practices. Devine earned his J.D. from William & Mary Law School where he was articles editor of the William & Mary Bill of Rights Journal. He earned his B.A., magna cum laude, from Miami University.

Gilbert is an associate in Waller's Healthcare Regulatory Compliance practice where he assists clients with regulatory compliance issues related to transactional matters and changes of ownership and provides advice on day-to-day operational concerns. He earned his J.D., magna cum laude, from the University of Kentucky College of Law where he graduated Order of the Coif and served as senior staff editor of the Kentucky Law Journal. Gilbert received his B.B.A. from Eastern Kentucky University.

Kibler assists clients across a range of industries in general litigation matters. Prior to joining Waller, Kibler gained valuable experience serving as a judicial law clerk to the Honorable W. Neal McBrayer in the Tennessee Court of Appeals in Nashville and the Honorable J. Steven Stafford, presiding judge of the Western Section of the Tennessee Court of Appeals. Kibler received her J.D., magna cum laude, from the University of Memphis Cecil C. Humphreys School of Law where she earned Business Law and Health Law Certificates. Kibler earned her B.S., magna cum laude, from the University of Memphis.

Kim assists employers in the healthcare, financial services, manufacturing, automotive and other industries with a wide range of immigration matters required to build and manage competitive workforces including J-1 waivers for physicians subject to the foreign residence requirement, H-1B visas for specialty occupation professionals, and L-1 visas for intra-company transfers. She earned her J.D. from Vanderbilt University Law School where she received a Law & Business Certificate. Kim earned her B.A. from the University of Chicago.

McKane assists clients in mergers and acquisitions, private equity investments and recapitalizations, corporate dispositions, securities offerings and other transactional matters. His experience includes hospitals and health systems, dental support organizations, physician practice management companies and behavioral healthcare services providers. McKane earned his J.D. from Washington University School of Law where he received a Business Law Certificate. He earned his B.S. from Centre College.

Nelson assists commercial lenders and borrowers in healthcare and other industries in finance transactions including acquisition and development financing, leveraged recapitalizations, asset-based loans and other senior and subordinated commercial credit facilities. Nelson earned his J.D., magna cum laude, from the University of Tennessee College of Law where he graduated Order of the Coif and served on the staff of Transactions: The Tennessee Journal of Business Law. He earned his B.S.B.A., magna cum laude, from Auburn University.

Ray assists healthcare providers and investors in mergers, acquisitions, joint ventures, divestitures, reorganizations, and private equity recapitalizations and investments. Her experience includes hospitals and health systems, dental support organizations and physician practice management companies, private equity firms and other healthcare investors. Ray earned her J.D. from the University of North Carolina School of Law where she was the Eugene Gressman and Daniel H. Pollitt Oral Advocacy Award Winner and Secretary of the Black Law Student Association. She earned her B.A., cum laude, from Lipscomb University.

Sengupta assists healthcare clients with regulatory compliance issues related to transactional matters and changes of ownership. She also provides counsel on day-to-day operational concerns. Prior to attending law school, Sengupta worked in the Office of the Tennessee Attorney General. Sengupta earned her J.D. from the University of Tennessee College of Law where she was publications editor on the Tennessee Law Review and a 1L Leadership Council on Legal Diversity (LCLD) Scholar. She earned her B.A., cum laude, from Middle Tennessee State University.

Stanfield assists media and entertainment companies, retailers, technology companies and other clients with trademark and copyright matters and helps them navigate emerging data privacy regulations and compliance issues. Stanfield earned her J.D., summa cum laude, from Belmont University College of Law where she served as executive submissions and transcripts editor on the Belmont Law Review.

She earned her B.A., summa cum laude, from Middle Tennessee State University.

Thornton provides counsel to clients in corporate restructuring and insolvency matters and transactions involving distressed assets. He also assists lenders and borrowers in arranging senior and subordinated commercial credit facilities. Thornton received his J.D. from Vanderbilt University Law School where he earned a Law and Business Certificate and a concurrent M.S. in Finance from Vanderbilt University Owen Graduate School of Business.  Thornton earned his B.A. from Harvard University.

Wilson assists healthcare companies and investors in transactional matters, including mergers, acquisitions, private equity recapitalizations and investments, joint ventures and divestitures. Her experience includes hospitals and health systems, dental practices and dental support organizations, specialty physician practices and ambulatory surgery centers. Wilson earned her J.D. at the University of Kentucky College of Law where she served as senior editor of the Kentucky Law Journal while concurrently earning a Master of Health Administration, summa cum laude, from the University of Kentucky. She earned her B.A., magna cum laude, from the University of Kentucky.
